What Really Matters

What Really Matters

I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.  For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.--------Philippians 1:9-10

This is a part of the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Christians in Philippi.  And I believe it will be very beneficial for Christians today, if we will take heed to the message.

Paul starts out with acknowledging the LOVE that the Philippian Christians had exemplified in their lives, possibly by the words they spoke, but more importantly by their actions.  They were able to LOVE in a Godly manner, because their relationship with God was a TRUE, GENUINE relationship, and they were ABLE to SHOW and SHARE a GENUINE AGAPE (Godly) LOVE.

Now when we apply this to Christians today, we need to examine our quality of LOVE.  Are we exemplifying a TRUE, GENUINE AGAPE LOVE?  Do the words we speak and the actions we show indicate that we are a part of God’s family and following His Precepts?  Or are we FAKING it?

In order to have the LOVE that Paul is talking about we have to allow the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts and let Him LOVE through us.  Then we will be exemplifying a TRUE, GENUINE AGAPE LOVE.

Paul says that it is His desire for them to grow in KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING, so they might be able to understand WHAT REALLY MATTERS, in order for them to live PURE and BLAMELESS lives until Christ returns.

To be able to grow in KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING, we MUST read and study the Word of God.  Not just READ, but STUDY and APPLY what we have learned, through our reading and studying, then we can grow in our KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.  We do this through our personal, alone time with God, and through our Sunday school lessons, preaching, and Bible Study classes.  Through these avenues of KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING we can KNOW and UNDERSTAND, “WHAT REALLY MATTERS.”  And be able to live PURE and BLAMELESS lives until Christ returns.  That should be the desire of EVERY Christian, for Christ to find them PURE and BLAMELESS.  He’s coming SOON, are you READY?

If you have not given your HEART and LIFE to Christ then you are NOT a part of His Family and cannot possibly exemplify His LOVE in your life nor can you KNOW and UNDERSTAND  what REALLY MATTERS, until you CONFESS your sins to God and ask Him for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU and is ALIVE, in Heaven, making intercession for YOU, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION and be found PURE and BLAMELESS when Christ returns.  Do it NOW, while you STILL can.  He’s waiting!!!
