“Put Off the Old Self and Put on the
New Self!”
You were
taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which
is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of
your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:22-24
I’ve been
told many times, that some people miss Heaven by the distance from the mind to
the heart. In other words some have a
knowledge of salvation, but they don’t possess it. They accept it in their mind
but not in their heart. And a prime
example of someone who has done this is; that they have NOT put off their old
self, but are still clinging to their old thoughts and ways.
The Apostle
Paul says that we are to “put off the old self, which is corrupted by its
deceitful desires, and to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put
on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” This is not possible if you are still
clinging to those old, sinful corrupt desires and ways.
When a
person ‘repents’ of their sins, it means that they ‘turn away’ from those
sinful ways and put off the old self,
then they turn to Christ and put on a new self, one that is created to be like
God in a right relationship with Him and to be holy as He is holy. We are to walk away from our old, sinful
corrupt self, and turn to a new, righteous, holy life that is made possible
ONLY through the regeneration process brought about by the work of God’s Holy
Spirit that indwells the TRUE believer.
When a
person accepts God’s gift of salvation in their mind ONLY, they do not possess
God’s Holy Spirit. They may have a head knowledge, but without the heart
knowledge, they are still living the old self and have not experienced a TRUE
repentance, or turning away from the old sinful self and therefore they do not
possess what they profess to be, and that is to possess a true righteous and
holy life with God. A person must be
drawn to God by the Holy Spirit. It
cannot be something that they decide to do on their own, whenever they want to. But the Holy Spirit of God brings them under
conviction and draws them to God for the salvation of their souls. They are then given the opportunity to ACCEPT
or REJECT His gift of salvation, but it must be a HEART thing.
When one
accepts God’s gift of salvation from a HEART knowledge, then they are to ‘put
on the new self,’ and allow the Holy Spirit to change their way of thinking and
living. He will guide and lead them to
living a righteous and holy life before the Almighty God.
If you have not
accepted God’s gift of salvation and are living in your old self, or if you
have thought that you have accepted it, but are still living in your old self,
then you are deceiving yourself and are not TRULY possessing what you are
professing, and you are headed for an eternity in Hell, a place that is void of
anything good. A place of torment and
misery, the likes of which mankind has never experienced. The Holy Spirit may be drawing you to God,
right now for the salvation of your soul, if you feel that tugging on your heart
strings then it is a strong possibility that He is convicting you of your sins,
if this is the case, what you should do NOW, is: Confess your sins to God and ask Him for His
forgiveness, believing, with all your HEART, that Jesus died for you, and is
alive in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then accept His gift
of salvation, and put off your old self, by turning away from your sins and
turning to Christ and live a TRUE righteous and Holy life for God. Do it now, while you still can. He’s waiting and coming soon!!!
