"Our Perfect and Pleasing Sacrifice"
Lord, open
my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise.
You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it; You are not pleased
with a burnt offering. The sacrifice
pleasing to God is a broken spirit. God,
You will not despise a broken and humbled heart. Psalms 51:14-17
These verses
are a reflection of the content of King David’s heart, after he was visited by
the prophet Nathan, concerning David’s sinful actions with Bathsheba. It is the king’s prayer for
forgiveness. David acknowledged his
sinful nature, in verse five, he said: “I
have sinned and done wrong since the day I was born.” When mankind is conceived we are conceived
with a sinful nature, and David was fully aware of that.
We will
commit sins until we are released from this wretched, sinful, dwelling place of
flesh and given a NEW, SINLESS dwelling place, either at the time of death,
when our soul departs this wretched, sinful, dwelling place of flesh, or at the
RAPTURE, when we receive a NEW, SINLESS dwelling place, the body, which will be
made NEW and NO sinful nature will abide there.
But that is only for those who have given their HEART and LIFE to God and
have become one of his Children. Those
who have not received a NEW, SINLESS, dwelling place, (body) will spend all
eternity in a wretched, tormented, miserable, painful, and tortured body with
NO recourse.
King David was living under the old covenant, when
offering a sacrifice was the way they obtained forgiveness of their sins. However, David realized that God doesn’t want
just the sacrifice or a burnt offering, but the ONLY thing that would make
things RIGHT between him and God is a BROKEN SPIRIT and a TRULY REPENTIVE HEART. Then and ONLY then can sins be forgiven.
Some
Christians, today, believe that when they sin, since their sins are ALL covered
by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, that they don’t have to confess those
sins. But this is NOT the case. 1 John 1:9 says that: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confession is a very vital part of our
relationship with God, if we have sin in our lives we cannot have fellowship
with God, when the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins, it is our
responsibility to CONFESS those sins to God and to restore our fellowship with
Him. David was fully aware of this and
that is why he said that a “broken spirit and a broken and humbled heart” was
what would be pleasing to God, not just going through the process of offering
up sacrifices to Him.
If you have
not given your HEART and LIFE to God, then you have NO relationship with Him
and you are destined to a life of misery, torment, heartache and pain for ALL
of eternity, unless you change things by first acknowledging your sinful
nature, then CONFESSING your sins to God and asking Him for His FORGIVENESS,
BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU, and is alive in
Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of
SALVATION, and have a RIGHT relationship with Him and enjoy fellowshipping with
the Father. Do it NOW, while you still
can. He’s waiting and coming SOON!!!
