“Free and Innocent”

 

How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?  Cleanse me from these hidden faults.  Keep Your Servant from deliberate sins!  Don’t let them control me.  Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.   Psalm 19:12-13

 

I believe this verse shows us the mindset of King David.  Remember, he was a man after God’s Own Heart.  And here we see his desire to have a HEART and LIFE that would be ACCEPTABLE to the ALMIGHTY GOD, who was his REDEEMER.  Here he begins with a question that shows David’s inadequacies; “How can I KNOW ALL the sins lurking in my HEART?”  Even the Prophet Jeremiah asked God  a question, much like the one David had asked:  “The human heart is the MOST DECEITFUL of ALL things, and DESPERATELY WICKED .  Who really KNOWS how bad it is?” (Jeremiah 17:9). 

 

Jeremiah KNEW that the HUMAN HEART was MOST DECEITFUL and DESPERATELY WICKED, David KNEW that there were things in his HEART that made his HEART, MOST DECEITFUL and DESPERATELY WICKED .  Sins that were UNKNOWN to him.  And his question was, “How can I know ALL the sins lurking in my HEART?  Then he asked God to CLEANSE HIM from the HIDDEN FAULTS.  David desired to be COMPLETELY CLEANSED and to have an ACCEPTABLE LIFE before God. He asked for God’s FORGIVENESS for those HIDDEN FAULTS and to KEEP him from sinning willfully.  David’s CONFESSION and REPENTANCE were NEEDED in order for God to FORGIVE and to KEEP David from DELIBERATE SINS, and to SECURE for him, an ETERNITY in HEAVEN, with ALL its BLESSINGS. And then, and ONLY THEN, could he be FREE of guilt and INNOCENT of GREAT SINS.

 

This is TRUE of EVERYONE, who comes to God for the SALVATION of their souls.  They MUST COME through the SHED BLOOD of His ONLY Son, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, who GAVE His Life in order for ALL mankind to be SAVED from an ETERNITY in HELL, with ALL its HORRORS, and NO WAY to ESCAPE, once they are there.  They MUST ADMIT that they are a SINNER, in NEED of the SAVIOR, JESUS.  They MUST BELIEVE, with ALL their HEART, that JESUS died for THEM, and that He is ALIVE in Heaven, making intercession for them before God.  They MUST CONFESS their sins to Him and with a TRUE REPENTANT HEART ask Him for His FORGIVENESS, and that God would give their MOST DECEITFUL, DESPERATELY WICKED HEART, a COMPLETE CLEANSING.  They MUST ACCEPT God’s Gift of SALVATION, and be FREE and INNOCENT of ALL their SINS.  And they MUST be WILLING to TURN AWAY FROM their SINFUL life-style, and TURN TO GOD, with a HEART and LIFE that is ACCEPTABLE to the ALMIGHTY GOD.  They NEED to do this NOW, while they STILL can.  He’s WAITING and COMING SOON!!!
