 “The Vanishing Faithful”

Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.  Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception.  May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue that says, “We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips—who is our master?”    Psalm 12:1-4

This is one of David’s Psalms, which is a prayer for DELIVERANCE. He cried out to the ALMIGHTY GOD, to DELIVER him from a LYING and ARROGANT PEOPLE, a CORRUPT and GODLESS  SOCIETY, which brought about OPPRESSION on the weak and GROANING of the needy.  

David laments that the GODLY were no more; and the FAITHFUL have VANISHED from them, and those who LIED and DECEIVED moved into their places.  Their words were DISHONEST which made them UNTRUSTWORTHY.  Therefore, the society became CORRUPT, with NO GODLY, FAITHFUL PEOPLE who were HONEST and TRUSTWORTHY.  Instead, they were living with people who were ARROGANT, BOASTFUL, and filled with PRIDE. People who brought OPPRESSION and SUFFERING among those who were WEAK and NEEDY.  

David prayed that God would DESTROY them and END their ARROGANT BOASTING.  He voiced his request this way:  “May the LORD cut off all FLATTERING LIPS and EVERY BOASTFUL TONGUE that says:  “We will triumph with our TONGUES; we OWN our lips—who is our master?”  This kind of sounds familiar to us today, especially with those who are running for public offices.  SOME speak with DISHONEST WORDS and ARROGANTLY BOAST with their LYING TONGUES and LIPS,  and we like David, cry out to the LORD:  “HELP, LORD, for it seems that the GODLY are no more, and the FAITHFUL are VANISHING.   And MANY are speaking LIES with FLATTERING LIPS and a BOASTFUL, PRIDEFUL ATTITUDE, and assumes that they can do as they PLEASE, because they have NO MASTER, except for themselves.  

In the rest of the Psalm we see the ASSURANCE of DELIVERANCE for David, (vv5-7).   Verse eight, describes what happens when a SOCIETY is ruled by such people:  “The wicked freely strut about when what is VILE is honored among men.” This verse gives us a picture of those WORTHLESS and RUTHLESS people, who uses their AUTHORITY and POWER through DECEPTIVE words, which are UNTRUSTWORTHY, but the WORD of the LIVING GOD is TRUSTWORTHY, and His Word tells us that SUCH DISHONEST, UNTRUSTWORTHY, ARROGANT, BOASTFUL people will, eventually be destroyed.   Do you fall into this category of people?  HOPEFULLY NOT!!

In order to escape a DISASTROUS DESTINY, of spending an ETERNITY in HELL, with ALL its HORRORS, and NO WAY to ESCAPE, once you are there, you MUST COME to the CROSS of JESUS CHRIST, and receive His Gift of SALVATION, and an ETERNITY in HEAVEN, with ALL its BLESSINGS.  To do that you MUST ADMIT that YOU are a SINNER in NEED of the SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, God’s ONLY SON, who SUFFERED and DIED in YOUR place, to PAY for your SINS.  You MUST BELIEVE that JESUS died for YOU, and that He is ALIVE in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God.  You MUST CONFESS your sins to Him and ask Him for His FORGIVENESS.  You MUST be WILLING to TURN AWAY FROM your sinful life-style, and TURN TO GOD, with a TRUE REPENTANT HEART.  You MUST ACCEPT His Gift of SALVATION and DON’T be a VANISHING FAITHFUL.  Do this NOW, while you still can.  He’s WAITING and COMING SOON!! !  Don’t be LEFT BEHIND!!!
