The Important Things

We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.  We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.  And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?  My only hope is in You-----Psalm 39:6-7

The Psalmist here describes our lives as being "merely moving shadows." James 4:14 says:  "Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.  You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away."  I believe that what the Psalmist and James is trying to tell us is that our EARTHLY lives are created just to last for a SHORT time. "here today and gone tomorrow," as the old saying goes.  A lot of people LIVE exclusively for the HERE and NOW, not once giving thought to the HEREAFTER.

They are to busy heaping up their wealth.  Some say that they are doing it for their families, so they can provide an inheritance for their children, now while that seems admirable, I have to ask:  "What about their ETERNITY? What are you doing to assure them of an ETERNITY in Heaven with God the Father and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ?  Are you heaping up SPIRITUAL wealth for them?

The Psalmist tells us that we heap up wealth NOT knowing who will spend it.  When we are gone we are no longer in control of this so called wealth.  It too is susceptible to destruction, thieves, devaluation, the elements of nature and so many other things.

The thing that is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE for us and our loved ones is to have our priorities set on those things that will make a DIFFERENCE in our ETERNITY.  While providing for their future, on earth, is sensible and admirable.  It all boils down to this:  Where do you put your HOPE?  in the TEMPORAL or MATERIAL things?  Or is your ONLY HOPE in the ONLY ONE who can make a difference in YOUR and YOUR FAMILY'S ETERNITY?

If you have NO hope, you can, by:  CONFESSING your sins to God and asking for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING in your HEART that Jesus died for YOU and is in HEAVEN making intercession for you before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION!  Do it NOW, while you STILL can.  He's waiting!!
