Then the angel told Mary, "Don't be afraid!" God is pleased with you, and you will have a son. His name will be Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of God Most High. The Lord God will make Him King as His ancestor David was. He will rule the people of Israel forever, and His Kingdom will never end."
Mary said, "I am the Lord's servant! Let it happen as you have said." And the angel left her.------Luke 1: 30-33,38
Mary, a young, (some believe that she was between the ages of 12-17), humble village woman, who lived in a small, insignificant town, with her parents, and betrothed to a mere carpenter, by the name of Joseph, possessed a quietness of spirit, an admirable self-control, and was PURE, TENDER, and MOST IMPORTANT of all she was FAITHFUL.
One day as she was about her daily routine, she was visited by an angel, more than likely Mary was ALONE, when the visit occurred. How afraid she must have been, I imagine she trembled, and FEAR must have been evident on her face and in her eyes, as she faced the Angel Gabriel, who quickly comforted Mary with the words: "Don't be afraid!" Those words were probably spoken in such a manner, that it SOMEHOW brought PEACE and CALMNESS to Mary's trembling spirit.
And then the next message that the angel had for Mary was/is the MOST IMPORANT words ever to be spoken to any of God's Children, "God is PLEASED with YOU!" Mary, evidently lived a GODLY, PURE, HOLY, FAITHFUL life, before God, at least as much as she could, because she was still HUMAN and I'm sure she had moments where the flesh surfaced, but I believe over all, Mary was about as GODLY and HOLY as she could be.
And because of her DEVOUT FAITH, she found FAVOR with the ALMIGHTY GOD. He was SO PLEASED with her, that He CHOSE her for the MOST IMPORTANT TASK that has ever been given to any NORMAL human being. A TASK so MONUMENTAL that it CHANGED the world and is CONTINUING to CHANGE the LIVES of the inhabitants of this OLD, SINFUL WORLD, even today.
Mary was to take on this MONUMENTAL TASK with GREAT RISK to herself, she was to become with child and NOT just any child, but the VERY SON OF GOD, Who would be the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, the ONE and ONLY MESSIAH, that would take away the sins of this WRETCHED, SINFUL world. Yet she was BETROTHED or engaged to Joseph and by law if she became pregnant by being UNFAITHFUL to him, she faced certain death by being stoned.
But Mary, being a WOMAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART, ACCEPTED this TASK, because of her LOVE and DEVOUT FAITH. This POOR, LOWLY, HUMBLE, PEASANT girl, that was of NO FAMILIARITY, has become KNOWN AS, "Mother of the Lord," and "Blessed among women."
Mary's reply to the angel was: "I am the Lord's servant! Let it happen as you have said." In spite of ALL the RISKS, Mary TRUSTED God and was a WILLING VESSEL for her Master.
Are we WILLING VESSELS? Do we TRUST GOD'S HAND?
If you have NEVER TRUSTED God's PLAN OF SALVATION, you can do it NOW, by: CONFESSING your sins to God and asking for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus came to earth as a tiny baby, and to grow up to be a sacrifice, by dying for YOU, and is ALIVE, in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION. Do it NOW, while you STILL can. He's waiting!!!
