And Joseph, also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.------Luke 2:4-7
It was getting late as Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem and Mary being at the end of her pregnancy, was EXHAUSTED from the long day traveling on the back of a donkey. The time for her to deliver her PRECIOUS, FIRSTBORN Child was VERY NEAR. "Are you ok?" Joseph asked, "yes, just tired and I have a nagging backache, but I'm fine," Mary replied. "We will be there SOON," Joseph said, smiling at his VERY PREGNANT wife.
As they travelled on, Mary's nagging backache became more intense and it was becoming VERY DIFFICULT for Mary to get comfortable sitting on the donkey's bony back. She had Joseph stop to let her get off the donkey so she could stretch her legs. Joseph CAREFULLY lifted Mary from the donkey's back and with STRONG ARMS, steadied his young, and very pregnant wife. "Look! Mary, I see the little town of Bethlehem," he said, pointing off into the distance. Mary was relieved with the thought of being able to stretch out and rest. So they wasted NO time getting to the little town.
As they entered the gate of the city, they both GASPED at the sight. The streets were FULL of people with hardly any room to move about, but Joseph begin to work his way through the HEAVY CROWD pulling the donkey that was carrying Mary and the SOON to be born Baby. It seemed to take forever to get through the crowd, and Mary's backache became LABOR PAINS, "Joseph, HURRY, we MUST find a place to stay SOON, the baby is on its way!" She cried out between birth pains.
Joseph saw a sign swinging above a big wooden door that had the word "INN" painted in big bold letters so he managed to work his way through the crowd to the door. Joseph POUNDED on the Big wooden door, soon a tired-looking, older man opened the door and before Joseph could speak, the old innkeeper snapped, "I don't have ANY more rooms." Then the old innkeeper started to shut the big wooden door, but Joseph blocked the door and pleaded, "PLEASE SIR, MY WIFE IS ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH!! We NEED a place to stay! The old innkeeper scratched his balding head and glanced over at Mary, who by now is all bent over and clutching her belly, with tears and sweat running down her forehead and cheeks and gasping for breath, she looked at the old man and when their eyes met his heart melted with compassion.
The old innkeeper led Mary and Joseph to the back and a good distance from the inn to a SMELLY, stable filled with animals. "It's not much, but it's ALL I have to offer you." The old innkeeper said. Joseph helped Mary off the donkey and they both "thanked" the old innkeeper as he turned to leave them to the birthing of GOD'S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON.
You know we are kind of like the old innkeeper. Those of us who have ACCEPTED God's gift of SALVATION. When the Holy Spirit started to deal with our hearts and brought conviction upon us, as the old innkeeper, said "I have NO ROOM FOR YOU!" We, like the old innkeeper tried to KEEP Christ out of our HEARTS, because they were CLUTTERED with things that didn't belong there and there was NO ROOM for Christ. But PRAISE THE LORD! That He didn't give up on us and like Joseph, He kept POUNDING on our hearts door, until we opened the door to our hearts and WELCOMED Him in.
If you are still in the same mindset as the old innkeeper, that you have NO ROOM for SALVATION or the HOLY SPIRIT of the LIVING GOD to move into your HEART, you can GET RID of the CLUTTER and make ROOM for Him by: CONFESSING your sins to God and ask Him for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU and is ALIVE, in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION, INVITE HIM IN! Do it NOW, while you STILL CAN. He's waiting!!!
