Being Like Christ

Being Like Christ

Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage.  Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men.  And when He had come as a man in His external form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death---even to death on a cross.--------Philippians 2:5-8

Years ago Christians were wearing tee-shirts, necklaces and bracelets with the initials ‘WWJD?’ printed, painted or etched on them. Those initials stood for, ‘What Would Jesus Do?’   The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the believers in Philippi was encouraging them to have the SAME attitude as Christ, or to ask themselves the SAME question, ‘What Would Jesus Do?’  He was asking them to take on the mind of Christ.  And this IS and SHOULD still be the attitude of ALL believers today.  We need to take on the mind of Christ and when faced with situations or decisions we need to ask ourselves, “What Would Jesus Do?”

Even though He existed in the form of God, He did NOT use His equality with God as something to use for His own advantage.  Instead He, the King of kings and Lord of lords, lowered Himself by taking on the form of a slave, by coming to earth and taking on the form of a lowly, humble man.

He came as a SERVANT, serving the needs of mankind, the biggest need of all was for the SALVATION of mankind’s soul and the King of kings met that need by being OBEDIENT to the will of Father God, even to the point of death, one of the worst forms of execution known to man, the death on a cross.  He HUMBLED Himself to take on the ridicule, hostility, hatred and rejection of mankind to be OBEDIENT as the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE for a lost and dying world---“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.”  (John 3:16-17)

Jesus’s attitude was that of a HUMBLE, OBEDIENT SERVANT, as a believer, what is your attitude?  Are you trying to live a CHRIST-LIKE life with the mindset of Christ?  Or are you trying to use your SALVATION as a ‘safety net’ for your own life-style?

And if you have not given your HEART and LIFE to God, then you can’t possibly take on the attitude of Christ, but you have the attitude of exactly what Satan wants you to have, an attitude that will take you STRAIGHT into an eternity of misery, heartache, torment, and torture in Hell.  You now have the opportunity to change your course by:  CONFESSING your sins to God, and asking Him for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU and is ALIVE in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION and take on the mind of Christ.  Do it NOW, while you STILL can.  He’s waiting!!!
