“The Man, Jesus”

 

He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.  He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.  Like one from whom people hide their faces He was despised, and we held Him in low esteem.          Isaiah 53:2, 3

 

Though Isaiah was speaking to the nation Israel, these verses of Scripture gives us all somewhat of a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, and teaches us some ‘spiritual’ aspects of His life.  He grew up before God like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.  This tells us that Jesus grew up in a DRY, ARID land.  A land where, you would think, the ground would not be conducive to producing a LARGE, STRONG, HEALTHY plant.  Spiritually speaking, it is like mankind’s heart, before their SALVATION, it is DRY and DESOLATE, not FERTILE ground for the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD to flourish, but only suitable for the seeds of SIN, WICKEDNESS, VILENESS, and DEPRAVITY.

 

According to these verses, Jesus’ appearance was not something of beauty or majesty.  His appearance would NOT draw mankind to Him.  I think it means that His appearance was NORMAL, not one of HANDSOMNESS, nor did it present a CHARISMA that drew people to Him.  He did NOT display attributes of ROYALTY, which was what the nation of Israel was looking for, but He was born into the POOR family of a carpenter from Nazareth.  He was born in a STABLE and laid in a feeding trough, or MANGER, not exactly the NORMAL birth place for a KING.

 

When He became a man, and started His ministry, He was not well accepted among mankind, they DESPISED and REJECTED Him.  He was the kind of man that was NORMAL and NOT someone that people desired to be around.  They REJECTED Him and His claim to be the SON OF GOD.  They believed Him to be an IMPOSTOR, to them He surely was NOT the SON OF GOD.  Instead they accused Him of BLASPHEMY, which brought about His death sentence.

 

He came as a MAN, who experienced ALL the PAIN and SUFFERING, that mankind experiences.  However, the BIG difference was; mankind is born with a SINFUL nature, Jesus was NOT.  He NEVER committed a sin.  He is GOD IN THE FLESH, He came to SEEK and to SAVE the very same people who DESPISED, REJECTED, and held Him in LOW ESTEEM.   He CAME and He SUFFERED excruciatingly at the hands of mankind. 

The ONE who came as God’s SERVANT, and is the KING OF KINGS and the LORD OF LORDS!  The ONE to whom EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, and EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS: “JESUS IS LORD!!”  Those who STILL REJECT Him will end up in HELL, the place of ETERNAL SUFFERING, AGONY, PAIN, HEARTACHE and DESPAIR.  Is this your destiny?  It doesn’t have to be, if you will come to God with a TRUE REPENTANT HEART, CONFESSING your sins to Him, and asking Him for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU, and is ALIVE in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION, and Jesus Christ as your SAVIOR and LORD.  Do it NOW, while you still can.  He’s waiting and coming SOON!!!
