Itchy Ears

Itching Ears

 

 

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching.  They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.  They will reject the truth and chase after myths.--------2Timothy 4:3-4

 

 

The time that the Apostle Paul is talking about in his letter to Timothy, is this present time that we are living in, today.  A lot of people today are very self-centered, and desiring to feed their own selfish desires.  One of which is having their ‘itchy ears’ tickled with sweet and sticky words that hold NO TRUTH, but will satisfy their own desires.

 

They go about this by, surrounding themselves with teachers who will tell them whatever their ‘itchy ears’ want  to hear, as long as it is NOT SOUND and WHOLESOME.  They are no longer willing to listen to SOUND and WHOLESOME teaching, because it brings with it CONVICTION, and will open their eyes to things in their lives that are contrary to God’s will.

 

Therefore, they want to hear ONLY what their ‘itchy ears’ desire.  They will be willing to REJECT the TRUTH and chase or RUN after myths, false stories, which will lead them down a path of destruction.

 

This is EXTREMELY dangerous for an immature Child of God, who falls into the trap of having their ‘itchy ears’ tickled.  They will listen to anybody and everybody and then PICK and CHOOSE, whatever best fits their desires.  And then they choose to believe it because it sounds good to them, regardless of what the Word of God says.  They usually come back with the statement: “well it makes sense to me.”  And it very well may make sense to them because they are having their ‘itchy ears’ tickled with what THEY desire and NOT with the TRUTH of the Word of Almighty God.  They end up following a FALSE teacher and a FALSE doctrine. 

 

What they NEED to do is to KNOW what the Word of God says and what it means and FOLLOW the Word of God, by sitting under the teaching of a TRUE man of God.  NOT somebody who is ALWAYS willing to tickle their ‘itchy ears’ and lead them astray.  

 

We NEED to KNOW the TRUTH and be OPEN  and WILLING to let the TRUTH work in our lives, even if it means that we come under CONVICTION and our ‘itchy ears’ are not being tickled with myths and lies.

 

If you have not given your HEART and LIFE to God.  You are living a lie and probably following your OWN self-centered desires.  You are on that path to destruction and will reach the destination that has been prepared for those who have rejected the TRUTH for a LIE just so they can have their ‘itchy ears’ tickled.  It’s a destination with NO return and is void of ANYTHING that is pleasant or good.  But you have the opportunity NOW to change your destination and FOLLOW the TRUTH by:  CONFESSING your sins to God and asking Him for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU and is ALIVE in Heaven, making intercession for you before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION and STOP having your ‘itchy ears’ tickled with lies, and FOLLOW the TRUTH.  Do it NOW, while you STILL can.  He’s waiting!!!
