Understanding God's Commands

Understanding God’s Commands

Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding so that I can learn Your commands.--------Psalm 119: 73

These are the words of David, the well-known king of Israel, who is considered to be a man after God’s own heart.  Even though he was known for his mighty acts of valor and bravery on the battlefield, he was also known by his FAITHFULNESS and his TRUST in the Almighty God, who equipped David to do all that he accomplished for God’s chosen people.

In this passage of Scripture, we see that David, even though having the fame that he had, knew that he was created by God, for God’s purposes.  So he humbles himself, before the Almighty, to plea for UNDERSTANDING and SENSE to KNOW and FOLLOW God’s commands.

It seems to me that this is a lesson we, as God’s Children, can benefit from.  We are expected to LEARN and KNOW what God expects of us, so we can be able to FOLLOW Him and accomplish His will, for each of us, in our own life.   But sadly to say some, unlike King David, some don’t seek God for UNDERSTANDING and SENSE to KNOW and FOLLOW His commands.  Some seem to think that when they become a Christian, they automatically have the UNDERSTANDING and SENSE to be able to KNOW and FOLLOW His commands. But it is through studying the Word of God, the Bible, and growing in the Word, through attending a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching, Church.

It would be like expecting a newborn baby to automatically have the UNDERSTANDING and SENSE to KNOW how to walk, which of course, is absurd, and so is expecting a Christian to UNDERSTAND and have the SENSE to KNOW and FOLLOW God’s commands, when they don’t even KNOW what those commands are.  So it only goes to reason, that we NEED to seek God for His direction and to show us His commands and then to give us UNDERSTANDING and the SENSE we need to be able to KNOW and to FOLLOW His commands.   It would make living the Christian life a whole lot better and more pleasing to the ONE who created us for His purposes.

If you have NEVER given your HEART and LIFE to God then you can’t seek Him for UNDERSTANDING His commands, until you FIRST come to Him for His free gift of SALVATION, and you do that by:  CONFESSING your sins to Him and asking for His FORGIVENESS, BELIEVING, with ALL your HEART, that Jesus died for YOU and is ALIVE, in Heaven, making intercession for you, before God, then ACCEPT His gift of SALVATION and seek Him for UNDERSTANDING and SENSE to be able to KNOW and FOLLOW  His commands.  Do it NOW, while you STILL can.  He’s waiting!!!
